Certificate Course on Numismatics offers an in-depth study of coins, currency, and medals, covering their historical, cultural, and economic significance. The course explores coin classification, minting techniques, iconography, and methods of authentication and preservation. It also examines numismatics as a tool for historical research and museum collections. Ideal for students, collectors, and history enthusiasts, this course provides foundational knowledge and practical skills for numismatic study and heritage conservation.
COURSE GLIMPSE:
The Certificate Course in Numismatic will provide individuals the opportunity to obtain a “Numismatic Scholar” certificate from the Centre for History and Archaeology.
Students will encounter an exciting and rewarding journey into the world of numismatics, thereby acquiring the basic knowledge and skills necessary to a fundamental understanding of the hobby.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
To highlight the importance of Coins not only in corroborating Indian History but also in modifying it.
To elucidate the information derived from coins across various streams of History i.e., Polity, Economy, Religion, Culture, Technology, Trade & Commerce.
To explain the interaction of Coins with the allied fields of Archaeology, Palaeography and Epigraphy resulting in generation of factual data to Historians.
To introduce students to Numismatic methodologies such as Regio Specificity, Numismatic type continuity, Provenance study, Hoard Study.
Offers students the chance to acquire a well-rounded education in numismatics.
Provides the opportunity for ASSSR members to obtain and apply their knowledge in numismatics.
Provides an educational service which further promotes the future of the hobby.
ELIGIBILITY:
Students Pursuing / Completed Graduate / Post Graduate / MPhil / PhD / Academicians in the subject History or any other relevant subject similar to Mettalurgy, Archives, etc.
